Starting Oct. 1, a state statute banning the disposal of plastic bottles, oil filters and wooden pallets in landfills will take effect in North Carolina.
According to the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, less than one out of every five plastic bottles generated in the state is recovered.
