The Mathematical Association of America bestowed its Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished High School Mathematics Teaching on John "Jay" Wilson III, of East Chapel Hill High School.
Wilson is one of 23 teachers selected for this international recognition.
High-achieving math students are asked to nominate a teacher. Wilson was nominated by ECHHS students Jeremy Hahn, Hyun Ji Bae, Arthur Kim and Theodore Lee.
Wilson won a cash award, a letter of recognition, a pin and certificate from the MAA, a one-year institutional membership in the MAA, twenty subscriptions to Math Horizons for distribution to students and a one-year membership in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
