My favorite, great teachers had to retire because of horrible working situations at their high school in Wake Co. Makes me wonder how many principal & admin fiefdoms there are in other schools. Teaching today is hard enough; then one has to put up with all the junk, power trips from admin!!!!

My favorite teacher from James Kenan High School is retired now and living in the Raleigh area. Mrs. Gail Bell was the best English teacher around. I appreciated her high standards and the fact that those standards were not lowered for anyone.

Mrs. Jane Waddell Wilson of Cumberland County Schools (at the time I was in school, she was at Westover) is probably the single most amazing chemistry teacher -- any teacher of any subject -- that I ever had. She is a brilliant woman, interesting, entertaining, able to keep your attention on the subject matter and make you want to learn all you could about it. Experiments in her class were always an adventure. At a time in my life when things were falling apart -- my father was a soldier overseas during Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and my parents were divorcing -- she managed to keep me on an even keel with my school work, which allowed me to keep every avenue open on pursuing my dreams. She truly cared about her students, each and every one, and I am grateful every day that she took the time to pay the attention I needed at a time when I needed it most.

I have two, one, the middle school math/former Spanish teacher at Sterling Montessorri school in Morrisville, Bert Daino, and Greg Vlazny, a senior English teacher at SW Guilford HS, in High Point. BOth men are devoted teachers who love what they do inspite of lousey pay and rude students. Mr. V is also an assistant basketball coaxh after starring here at Cary Academy's winningest teams, (200-01) and playing 2 years for UNCG.
