Who's your favorite teacher?

I love giving props to teachers!  Each Tuesday I will feature a teacher on the morning news.  Check out today's story on Nan Clarke of Bethesda Elementary School in Durham or last week's story on Bryan Holley of Corinth-Holders Elementary School in Johnston County

Unfortunately I can't highlight every deserving teacher on the morning news but we have plenty of room here in cyberspace.

Let me tell you about a couple of teachers I've received emails about.  Please share your comments below about deserving teachers.

Laura Baer wrote to tell me about her ten year old's band director, Matthew Pellas of Hunter Elementary School in Raleigh.  "The band director deserves so much to be recognized as a top-notch educator. Matthew Pellas is flat out awesome! It is beyond amazing what he is able to do with so many young musicians" said Baer.  She went on to tell me that The Hunter Wind Ensemble performed at the North Carolina Music Educators Conference in Winston-Salem recently.  She said it is a huge honor to be invited and even a bigger honor for Hunter and Mr. Pellas because of the fact they are an elementary school. Most of the bands that were invited ranged from middle school to college-aged bands.

Trevor Ramp wrote to tell me about Kelly Nash, a fifth grade teacher at Harris Creek Elementary School in Wake County.  He says Kelly has an impeccable record of bringing low scoring kids up to speed and beyond, and a gentle quite confidence that encourages growth in kids without having to use as heavy a hand.

Again, feel free to show some love to  teachers who deserve some public recognition.

We feel Mrs. Elrod (5th Grade) and Mrs. Raynor (1st Grade) of Riverdell Elementary School, Clayton, NC are extremely deserving of the "Teacher of the Week" award. Mrs. Elrod is passionate about teaching her children, making them explore new thoughts and ideas, set goals for themselves, and goes the "extra mile" to help each and every student succeed. Mrs. Raynor is loving, caring, and extremely organized. She has a heart for children with a "no nonsence" style that helps her First Graders focus on reading while making it fun to excell in the classroom!

all of forest pines drive school's teachers. They are all so well put together. They teach according to the student and go far above what is expected. KUDOS to FPDE!!! love ya all.

Absolutely had to be Dr. Phyllis Vogel at NC State. She taught Music Theory. Those two semesters prepared me better for a career in computers than all of the programming courses I ever took. And she plays a mean harpsichord.

My favorite teachers were Frances Wicker and Rochelle Fulton. Both taught 7th grade in Lee County when I had them. My father and some of his siblings also had Mrs. Wicker. She was a wonderful influence, as was Mrs. Fulton. They are a part of the reason I became a teacher.
