Violence Prevention Activism

Casey Story, a sophomore at Garner Magnet High School was selected to serve a second term on the National Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) Youth Advisory Board (YAB).

Recognized as a leader in her school and community, Casey will join nine other youth leaders to discuss school violence issues, develop action plans for, not only her SAVE chapter, but also for SAVE chapters across the nation as SAVE celebrates its 20th Anniversary.

The YAB will be developing their leadership skills through participation in training sessions, discussions of best practices to prevent school violence, and practice of educational activities for sharing with other SAVE students. They will create goals for the year and create a proactive action plan to combat violence through the implementation of the three essential elements of SAVE: crime prevention, conflict management, and service projects.

This is Casey's fifth year in SAVE and second year on the National Youth Advisory Board. She was awarded the National SAVE Middle School Student of the Year for 2006-07 as well as the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

Casey has always been interested in violence prevention. As a SAVE member, Casey does all she can to prevent and end violence. She tries to befriend people in need, especially those who are bullied. She helps to defend others to prevent fights and more bullying.

Casey performs community service projects and gets others involved to make her community more violence-free. She was president of her chapter at Garner Magnet High School last year and will again serve in that role this school year. She took many leadership roles when she was a part of East Garner Magnet Middle School's SAVE chapter.

s a National Youth Advisory Board Member, Casey said she hopes to use her experience and knowledge of SAVE to make the 20th Anniversary of SAVE the best year yet in order to reach even more students with the SAVE message. She also hopes to help SAVE keep growing and add chapters in all 50 states.
