A lot of us are getting our houses in order in preparation for Hanna or Ike or any storm that might affect us. Our local schools are no different. Greg Thomas with Wake County schools told me the facilities department is busy right now. They're making sure drains on school property are clear and ensuring that rooftops are clear of debris. They will make sure all windows are closed and doors are sealed and that loose items outside are secured..
The transportation department is making sure the vehicles are fueled and that the windows and doors on the buses are closed. The schools are also thinking about what the community might need after the storm. Volunteers in the Child Nutrition department are on standby in case the Red Cross needs to use a school facility. They would act as facility managers. Finally, many high school football games were rescheduled for Thursday night from Friday night.
Since the storm is expected to have the most impact on the area Saturday instead of on a school day closings and delays aren't a huge issue, although some schools are releasing students early Friday. Still this is a good time to remind you that when storms do impact your schools we'll let you know ASAP. We'll put the information here on wral.com, we'll broadcast it on WRAL-TV and scroll it on the bottom of the screen.
