How Much Do School Bus Drivers Get Paid?

Q: What is the hourly rate of bus drivers? (A few years ago, it was "exposed" that bus drivers wages were very very low. They were given small raises. Every re-districting makes for more bus routes and incredibly inefficient moving of kids around. What would it cost to do more raises??)
- Laura McGoogan, Cary

A: The starting rate of pay for a Wake County school bus driver is $11.81 per hour. They are employed a minimum of six hours per day, according to Wake County Public Schools Director of Transportation Alvin McNeill.

So if the job is not worth the pay, get a different job. Having said that, I will also say, you could not pay me enough to drive one of those buses.

Definitly not enough for what they have to put up with.Talk to any school bus driver and they will fill you in!
