How is School Bus Fuel Funding Broken Down?

Q: How much did the (Wake County Public) school system spend for gas and how much did the state contribute? I believe this expenditure is shared with local and state money.

A: The school system spent $5,033,867 on fuel last year, according to Director of Transportation Alvin McNeill. Here’s how it’s broken down:

State funds: $4,020,388
Local funds: $1,013,479

Here are some other interesting facts about Wake County school buses:

Total miles traveled last year: 15,213,950
Total gallons of fuel used: 2,361,916
