Top Ten Great Things About 1/1/2008

10.  Everyone getting out to their buses on time (even a few mins. early) without

       a hitch at 4:48am!

  9.  The traffic going to and from the Rose Parade.......NOT!!

 8.   Joselito (the #1 busdriver) and Jody (Colorguard director) keeping Bus 7

in stitches with their sense of humor!!

 7.  Talking to family and friends on phones that had already watched the kids

and hearing their enthusiasm on how awesome they were!  We were around

the 5 mile spot, so it was a good hour and a half  before we got to see them!!

 6.  Hearing that ABC will show the band twice tonight- since the network went

to commerical at the most unappropriate time!!

 5.  The two hour rest inbetween the parade and our visit to the Queen Mary!

 4.  Watching the bond of the three bands sharing the hotel together- the Zurich

Police Band from Switzerland and the South Dakota University Band- we all

sat together in the risers along the parade route and cheered for each other's

      band like no tomorrow!

 3.  Getting dressed up and eating a wonderful dinner on the Queen Mary with our

kids- and I think they enjoyed it as well!!

 2.  Seeing JR's RADIANT  face when he brought his band into view of the

Broughton crowd during the parade.  We were going CRAZY!!!!

 1.  The joy of watching our kids make us prouder than words can say!  Their hard

work, dedication and committment is what makes memories like this

      PRICELESS!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Loved the top 10! Please let JR know there is a GREAT photo of him in today's N&O with an equally great article. Reading all the blogs have made me feel a part of this great experience. and let JR know that he did accomplish his 'second goal'-to create great memories for the kids! Keep blogging-B.Sledge

As a graduate (Class of 1980) and a member of the band when Mr. Richardson first arrived at Broughton, I was very proud of the band's performance in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Mr. Richardson certainly looked proud and happy as he was walking and waving to the crowd. I so appreciate the efforts of the parents to blog about the trip. I felt as if I was there and at times found myself with tears in my eyes from the pride I felt. I hope the band will continue its excellence under the direction of the new band director. It will be hard to replace Mr. Richardson - he is AWESOME.

Congrats Broughton Marching Band! As a Broughton alum, I was so proud to see Raleigh so well represented in the parade. Almost missed them though - Fortunately I knew I could see them both on NBC and ABC. When I had a feeling ABC had "passed them over" I quickly turned to NBC and there they were! Congrats to all and for all of their hard work!

As a marching band mom from another Wake County High School, I can appreciate the work and dedication you have all committed to get your band to this level. I was watching for them on tv, and didn't see them, so thanks for the info on what happened. Congratultions!

I have not been able to watch it. I cannot believe the network did not show it, if that is what you meant. All you band parents should be so proud!! Have a safe trip home and we will be waiting!
