Wake County's school board chairman officially announced Tuesday that he is seeking re-election for his District 8 seat this fall.

"Ron Margiotta remains committed to the families and children of Wake County and proudly announces his intention to seek a third term representing the citizens of Wake County on the Board of Education," his campaign said in a news release.

“Our school system has experienced great progress in the past two years, but we must keep the momentum,” Margiotta said in the release. “I am proud to have contributed to our many accomplishments, yet I know my work is far from over.”

Margiotta's seat is among the five of the school board's nine seats that are up for grabs in October's election. Margiotta is the only Republican member up for re-election.

Democratic members Carolyn Morrison and Dr. Anne McLaurin have announced that they won't seek election. Incumbents Keith Sutton and Kevin Hill have both said they will run.

from the wral archives: Margiotta will likely step down

Wake County school board chairman Ron Margiotta said Thursday that he is 95 percent sure he will not run for re-election when his term ends in November 2011.

@geosol Those of us who voted Margiotta into office are very pleased with his performance and he is correct that there is much still to be done. He will be re-elected in our district in a landslide.

Cool!!! I'm sure that there's still some damage that he can do to the public school system so that kids will have to go to the private schools that he supports. Only problem is, the right wing board members that were paid to run last time have been exposed for the pawns of the far right that they are and have always been. Bye, bye, little winger pawn!!!!

This was decided months ago. Guess wral never got the invite.

I wish him well. I believe anytime you have the NAACP barking in your face on a daily basis you are trying to do the right thing.
