Former Wake schools' chief gets new job

Posted December 2, 2010

— Former Wake County superintendent Del Burns has been named the interim superintendent for the Alamance-Burlington School System, Board of Education member Patsy Simpson said Thursday.

Burns will take over in January.

Burns is expected to be in the position for about six months while the board searches for a new superintendent, Simpson said. It is unclear if Burns plans to apply for the job on a permanent basis.

Simpson said Burns was a good choice because he had recent experience leading a school system and working with budgets.

Burns led the Wake County school system for four years. He resigned in February when the school board moved from a diversity-based student assignment plan to a community-based model.

Dr. Burns wasn't responsible for the busing issue in Wake County. YOu can thank the man before him for that wonderfulness. Anyone remember who that was?

I hear the for sale signs are going up all over that area already.

The Alamance County job will be a piece of cake compared to the Wake County job. They don't have nearly the population growth that Wake County has had over the last 40+ years. For that matter, there aren't but a handfull of school systems in the country that have faced growth like Wake County. So Del Burns will do a great job in Burlington.

He will do a great job...wish he was still in wake county..we didn't have all this fussing and fighting back then!! All we have now is bull headed people that's metto is there way or no way...the one the wants to be in front of the camera all the time keeps a smark on his face. He loves that he is causing all the fighting. He's a trouble maker....

BEWARE ALAMANCE-BURLINGTON CO!!! He will screw up your schools big time. The man is spineless and has no opinion on anything. I would not let him apply for permanent position when interim expires.

Glad to see wral doing their usual censoring. Closed 1 of the 2 stories Jim Goodmon made them run to all comments, I guess because they didn't know how many hate that man here, and now this story literally just wiped off any of the pages. Way to go Wral and golo censors. You do a marvelous job. Of spinning things your way. Hypocrites.

Wow, sorry to hear that for you guys. He totally destroyed many, many families lives here and wrecked our system completely. Good luck Alamance. You're going to need it!

Congrats to Del Burns. Glad to hear he got another good job fairly close to the Triangle. Alamance County Schools will benefit having him piloting the ship.
