RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County school board is keeping its promise to teachers to give them a modest 1-percent pay increase for next school year.

State lawmakers included funding for the pay raise in the 2012-13 budget approved last month. The school board finalized the measure at its Tuesday meeting.

Board members also vowed Tuesday to keep a close eye on schools with large numbers of low-performing students. Vice Chair Keith Sutton said the board may have to come up with extra resources to help those students in the future.
