RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh area will be bustling this weekend as local colleges herald the arrival of new students and upperclassmen alike for the 2011-12 school year.
North Carolina State University welcomed the Wolfpack freshmen class Friday. Over 4,500 freshmen are enrolled at State; the majority of them live on campus. All students living on campus, both freshmen and upperclassmen, can move in to residence halls Aug. 12-16. Classes begin Wednesday.

Meredith College ushers in its freshmen Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Class of 2015 is diverse, made of 410 students who hail from 19 states and 15 countries, according to the school website. Upperclassmen are expected to move in over the weekend as well. Meredith's fall semester also begins Wednesday.

For the first time ever, North Carolina Central University freshmen will move in on a Saturday. The change, to Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., was made for the convenience of parents. NCCU is expecting about 1,250 freshmen Eagles this year, including at least 800 who will be living on campus. Returning students residing on campus will move in August 18-21. The first day of the fall semester is Aug. 22.
