Wake's Hargens out of running for New Hanover job

Wake County's interim school superintendent is out of the running to head up New Hanover County Schools.

Donna Hargens was one of three final candidates being considered for the position, but Wake County Public School System spokesman Michael Evans said Wednesday that the school board there chose another candidate.

Hargens, who is currently the school district's chief academic officer, took over oversight of daily operations for Wake County schools in March, after outgoing Superintendent Del Burns was placed on administrative leave for controversial remarks he made about the school board.

She'll continue to serve as interim superintendent until the Board of Education finds Burns' replacement, Evans said. Hargens hasn't indicated whether she is interested in the job permanently.

New Hanover County Schools spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum said the local school board there unanimously chose Tim Markley, superintendent of Catawba County Schools, for a four-year contract.

Sorry, but anything associated with the current circus caused by the little right wing activists is tainted.

"She needs to get on one side of the fence or the other. "

Maybe she is smart enough to realize there are good points to both sides, and like many of us, think there could be benefits to trying something new. The fab 5 are already changing their tune after yesterday's meeting.

She absolutely cant stay. She supported the old policy and now she wants to turn around and support the neighborhood policy. She needs to get on one side of the fence or the other. No one wants a person on their staff that just licks her finger and decides what direction and what policy to follow. I dont support neighborhood schools but all those people at the county office that were hired and followed the old policy need to GO. The old policy and the new policy are just too different to have the total support from the old staff hired by Dr. Burns. He must have handpicked her for her position.

Glad your e-mail allowed you to join the other clueless people on this forum.

"What a shame for this faithful employee." That may be but it is time to clean house of the Del Burns protegés. Kevin Hill, Dr. Meeker, please follow her out the door.
