RALEIGH, N.C. — Only about a dozen people showed up for a public meeting Tuesday evening to weigh in on the qualities they want in the Wake County Public School System's eighth superintendent.

A meeting was held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the board room of the Wake County Public School System's Central Services Offices, at 3600 Wake Forest Road.

Representatives of search firm Heidrick and Struggles led the meeting.

The district is looking for a replacement for Del Burns, who resigned the position last month after four years in the job and 34 years with the school system.

Donna Hargens, the system's chief academic officer, is serving as interim superintendent. She has not said whether she plans to apply for the job.

A second forum is scheduled for Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon.
