Planning for new Wake schools assignment system begins Friday
The Wake County Board of Education scheduled a special meeting for Friday to begin considering how to implement a change in how students are assigned to schools.
Posted — UpdatedThe board voted last month to scrap the decade-old method of assignment, which bused students across the county in an effort to achieve socio-economic balance and limit the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at any one school.
Board member John Tedesco will present his concept for community-based school assignment at the meeting Friday at 4 p.m. at the school administration building, 3600 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh, in the Board Conference Room.
Members of the public who wish to attend will be seated in the Board Room and can watch the meeting via video link. Approximately 150 vouchers for those seats will be available starting at 3 p.m.
According to the posted agenda for the meeting, Tedesco will explain "how he will lead through the planning process over the next 9-15 months."
