Rivers to give NCSU commencement address
San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will give the commencement speech during North Carolina State University's spring commencement exercise on May 12, officials said Wednesday.

The 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, Rivers started all 51 games at quarterback for N.C. State over his four-year college career.
He ended up the second-leading passer in NCAA history, with 13,484 career passing yards, and finished tied for fifth in NCAA history with 95 career touchdown passes. He became the first quarterback in ACC history, and only the seventh in NCAA history, to throw for 3,000 yards in three different seasons.
Rivers graduated with a degree in business management in December 2003. His jersey, No. 17, was retired before his final home game on Nov. 22, 2003.
Off the field, Rivers and his wife, Tiffany, launched the Rivers of Hope Foundation in 2010 to help unwanted, abandoned and orphaned children find permanent loving homes. The foundation has raised more than $650,000 through football camps and a 5-kilometer run. Rivers and teammate Quentin Jammer also have partnered to help fund the creation of a football stadium for San Pasqual Academy, a first-in-the-nation residential education campus designed specifically for foster teens.
