Vance Elementary School

Naomi Lee

I'm of retirement age and Mrs. Naomi Lee was my teacher at Vance Elementary School in the 50's. My twin brother and I were in Mrs. Lee's 6th grade together because back in those days there were so few children that only one grade level was needed for each school. I remember Mrs. Lee did not want me to assist my brother with school work. She would always tell me not to help, and let him do it himself. Well....he liked to play and did not want to study, and it was embrassing to me when he didn't do his classwork, and she would have to correct him. I can truly say now that I understand why she felt that way about my helping him. He did not pass that year and this was a good thing, because he had and did learn to study on his own. Mrs. Lee is still living in Wake County about two miles from me at the present time. I see and hear from her often. I will always admire her for what I learned while in her class. She also taught my daughter in this same school.
