praise music

Another blogger's post reminded me of my time growing up in a little four room church down in Wilmington. I have many fond memories of this place...mostly when it was Homecoming and the church ladies brought tons of good food! We never had more than 40 people or so on any given Sunday, and a good ten people sang in the choir.

Even though I am an atheist, I love the sound of little 75 year-old ladies singing from a 1940's hymnal. I get a smile when I think of the young man who sang the Lord's prayer at least twice a month. Yes, he was terrible, but he liked to sing. I always put my head down, least I laugh at the wrong time.

I do NOT however, like the new-school "praise music". Ack! What is up with the words on jumbo screens and pimped out kids rapping? Rap stinks in regular times...it is REALLY bad when sung with Christian lyrics.

In honour of this new genre of music, I present the christian side hug for your viewing pleasure.

EDITED: I almost forgot! My sister is super religious, and some friends invited her to one of those "concerts" where they kept singing the songs over and over and had the words on the screen. Even SHE got freaked out and made her excuses to leave. She said, "Gucci, it looked like everyone was in some kind of trance - holding their arms up and swaying with eyes closed."

Creepy.

FSM Bless,
