I notice noone has responded here in a while.
Wanted to share some info with you. There is a job hunting support group called CareerNet sponsored by St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Raleigh on Wednesday mornings 7:30 to 9:15. I've been twice and felt it was worthwhile. One time they had a panel of reps from different companies who gave advice on different aspects of job seeking (resumes, thank you notes, what specifically they were looking for, etc.).
I went yesterday and the speaker was the owner of a temporary/recruiting firm. There were lots of questions from the audience and one was about LinkedIn, a social job networking site. He said that employers nowadays would not even LOOK at your resume if you did not have a profile on LinkedIn. I have joined now and it has some useful features, but it is kind of hard to negotiate around in. I am curious what others think about this site and your experiences. I also would be happy to get recommended as that is required to have your resume posted (or rather taken seriously). I'd welcome your input.
