Ever heard the old saying about March...

CARY —    When March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb? I think that will apply starting tomorrow as our hero Mr. Greg Fishel determines today whether to upgrade his Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning for Sunday and Monday. I feel for him when snow enters the forecast. All it takes is just a whisper of the word snow and the Triangle's entire population starts dancing with joy. Well, most of us anyway. And if he dares to predict snow for sure - as in a Winter Storm Warning....well he better be right or else he's going to be depressed once again because I think he takes missed forecasts of snow personal. Hehehehe!
Anyway, I got up this morning and said to myself, "I bet the birds are eating up a storm at my bird feeder this very moment, especially with snow possibily on the horizon". I heard them singing in the trees when I woke up, and when I stepped outside (with my camera in tow) they were nowhere to be seen. The wind was calm and the rain was coming down more stready by the minute.  But I sure wanted to get some photos for Golo's "Signs Of Spring" contest that was just launched. Dissappointed, came back inside and had my morning coffee. After the cup-full of liquid eye opener, I looked out the window and the north wind had come to life. I looked down at the bird feeder and to my surprise the birds were feasting on those sunflower and safflower seeds as though they hadn't eaten in weeks! Grabbing my camera, I sneaked out to my favorite chair on the balcony and started taking pictures.

Munching out on the ground under the feeder was a morning dove, a species I haven't seen since last fall. Above him on the feeder were three feathered friends - all eating side-by-side. Their photo is atop this blog. On the far right is a male house finch, and in the middle is his girlfriend. She can be identified by her white eyebrow. On the backside and on the far left is I think a song sparrow. Sparrows are notorious for knocking the food to the ground with their beaks, but do so because they usually get forced off the feeder by other birds and will then eat the seeds they knocked down to the ground.

It's going to be a rainy day today. Mother nature is going to reward us soon with all kinds of flowers too. Watch out for the snow tomorrow and Monday..it might turn into an ice storm too!!!! Regardless of the weather...have a GREAT weekend!!
