9-11: this was my view...

From the rooftop of a hospital, where my father was being prepped for surgery. While he was in pre-op, the nurse came in and turned on the tv, talling us about the first plane. We were shocked. This was  place we regularly visited as a family. Windows on the World was our special anniversary and birthday/go to NYC to see a show, place. By the time the second plane hit, Daddy was in surgery and never saw it happen. Thank God. He grew up just a few blocks from here...

His surgery went well. After being wheeled into recovery, the first thing he asked was "What happened?" I started to cry and told him they were gone. At first he didn't believe me. Then as a family, we just held each other and cried.

Obvously one of the worst days of our lives, and by us I mean Americans. In the midst of all the tragedy and angst, disbelief and anger, we all stood as one...I think Dickens said it best in "A Tale of Two Cities,"

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it ws the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the seaon of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us..."

Today, remember all those who gave their lives so that we can live in freedom...
