New wildfire forces some evacuations near Blowing Rock

Blowing Rock, N.C. — A number of homes were evacuated late Monday in the Blowing Rock area after a new wildfire was reported in Watauga County.
WCNC reported that officials began evacuating residents in the area of Sampson Road and Watson Drive around 7:15 p.m. Monday. It's unclear if any homes were damaged.
Wildfires across the western part of the state have burned thousands of acres in recent weeks.
