A new upscale resale fashion chain,  Clothes Mentor, opened in Chapel Hill on Thursday and they have designer clothes for 70% off the retail price! They also buy designer clothes and pay cash on the spot - no appointment needed.

According to their press release, you can find great Talbot’s jackets for $15 (not $80), Ann Taylor short-sleeve blouses for $10 (not $60), Lilly Pulitzer dresses for $40 (not $200) and Coach bags for $30-$150 (not $200-$600). They carry regular, maternity, petite and plus sizes -- better brands like Banana Republic, Coldwater Creek, Lane Bryant, Anthropologie, Frye and Ugg boots, Citizens of Humanity and Joe’s Jeans – accessories like shoes, purses, jewelry – and only $15 average prices. This store is a national chain with 100 stores including seven in North Carolina.

They carry business, casual, smart and sophisticated apparel in sizes 0 to 26 or 3x. There are tops and bottoms, jeans, dresses, suits, career separates, coats and jackets, purses, designer handbags, shoes, jewelry, belts, scarves and other accessories. Customers find bright lights, sophisticated displays and private fitting rooms. All major credit cards are accepted.

“We’re a totally different form of shopping,” say store owners Chris Tovell and Kim Vassiliadis. “We fit the style, brand and value consciousness of Triangle women who love fashion and adore 70% savings. Customers selling us good-condition merchandise receive immediate cash, not a consignment form. And we’re proud to blend recycling, sustainability and a sizable clothing resource in the area.”

The store is located at 241 S. Elliott Road, Chapel Hill, between Franklin St. and Fordham Blvd. (U.S. 15-501), near Whole Foods.  You can see more information on the their website at

I have been to the Clothes Mentor in Fayetteville that just opened on January 23.

While I think I will like the store to buy clothes myself, I did not like the prices that they offered when you sold clothing. I had a basket with 5 pair of Old Navy jeans (NWT) and 4 Old Navy tops (NWT) -- they offered me $15 for everything. Ehhhh. I took the stuff back home and sold it online.

The store is very nice and setup is great.

Men's clothing cannot be sold. It is female clothing only plus purses, shoes, accessories, etc.

RFB - I agree. I don't get to CH enough since I live on the other side of the Triangle.
