Triangle restaurant news (Jan. 3, 2014)

RALEIGH, N.C. — Gringo A Go-Go has finally opened its door in downtown Raleigh. This taqueria featuring authentic Mexican cuisine is located in the old home of Ruben's Downtown Diner on Person Street. It is the latest project from Ben Shelton, the chef behind Lilly's Pizza in Five Points. Their hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

Another opening this week to report: Bull City Burger and Brewery's sister-restaurant Pompieri Pizza has started serving their wood-fired pies. Pompieri is located in the historic fire station number 1 across from Durham's city hall on Mangum Street. They start serving at 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Now, some sad news to report. Hibachi Xpress has closed its brick-and-mortar location on Walnut Street in Cary. They will continue to operate their food truck and are in the process of completing their catering kitchen. 

Bombshell Beer Company will be opening its tasting room in Holly Springs on Saturday. This all-female-owned microbrewery is located in the Omni business park. They announced via Twitter that they will be open noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. 

Wine Authorities is opening their Raleigh location at 211 E. Franklin St. on Monday. At this location look for 24 wines on tap, an expanded deli case with cheese and meat and fresh baked bread from Yellow Dog Baking! They also have beer available. 

Schoolkids Records is moving to Mission Valley shopping center off of Western Boulevard in Raleigh. It was among the businesses on Hillsborough Street that needed to relocate to make way for a hotel project. They are next to Planet Smoothie. A Waffle House is also moving in on the opposite side of Planet Smoothie. 

Another business affected by the project closed its doors this week. Fellow Hillsborough Street tenant Sadlack's Heroes closed out its 39 year run with a New Year's Eve concert. 

The Oak City Meatball Shoppe is getting closer to opening. This Italian restaurant is located on East Davie Street next to Dickey's Barbecue Pit in downtown Raleigh. In a post on their Facebook page, owners said they had a great staff orientation and looked forward to opening next week. We will keep you posted about the exact date. 

One more piece of news: The Golden Belt in Durham appears to be for sale, according to The Independent Weekly. This renovated textile mill houses apartments, galleries, a yoga studio, the Durham VOICE newspaper and retail shops.
