Prairie trail at Prairie Ridge Ecostation

Starting this week, Prairie Ridge Ecostation will launch a new program for young kids - a storytime.

The activity includes a nature-themed story and activity at the spot in west Raleigh. The ecostation is part of the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences and is a great outdoor area to explore.

Storytimes are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Thursday, including this Thursday, Aug. 29, Sept. 5, Sept. 12, Sept. 19 and Sept. 26. No registration is required. Kids must be with their adult. This is not a drop-off program.

If you go, follow the Nature Stories signs from the front entrance to the outdoor amphitheater. There are restrooms located in the classroom near the amphitheater. Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes. You'll be walking along natural surface trails so be sure to bring a jogging stroller or pack for the youngest kids.

For more information, contact Cathy Fergen at or 919-707-8878. If the weather is iffy, call the weather line at 919-707-8888, and press 5.

I'm looking forward to getting out there with my preschooler soon!
