New SavingStar offers and change to payout options

Posted October 30, 2014

SavingStar.com has some new cash back offers for Peter Pan peanut butter (.25 cash back), Wonder whole wheat or white bread (.25 cash back) & Little Debbie bakery products (.75 cash back)!

Peter Pan peanut butter is on sale at Harris Teeter for $2 this week and BOGO at Publix.

SavingStar is also changing the payout options as of November 1.  As of 11/1, Amazon will no longer be an option for payouts. They will be adding other options in November, but they are not sharing what those options are at this point. They did post on their Facebook page that the new options will not require a bank account so I am guessing there will be other gift card choices.

If you have recently requested an Amazon payout, be advised that they are behind in sending the codes because so many have put in their requests to get the Amazon GC before they are no longer available (including me!). It could be up to 2 weeks before Amazon gift card codes are sent.

Head to SavingStar.com to load the new offers to your account.  Remember, the discount does not come off at the register. Read the details below about how this cash back program works.

New to SavingStar? Here is how it works:

SavingStar.com is a cash back coupon site. You don't print out a coupon to redeem at the register. You enter your store reward card numbers on theSavingStar.com website, then load digital coupons to your reward cards and buy the participating products at any of the participating stores.

There are 2 types of redemption methods, depending on the store.

1. With CVS, Rite Aid, Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods & Food Lion, the redemption is automatic.  Once you load the cash back offers to your account and buy the products, no additional action is required on your part to get the cash back in to your SavingStar account. The coupon savings are added to your SavingStar account a couple weeks after your purchase. You will get an e-mail from Savingstar when they have added savings to your account.

2. With Kroger, Target, Walmart, Walgreens and Family Dollar, you will need to take an extra step after you buy the offers you have loaded on to your account. After purchase, you need to scan the product barcode and take a photo of the receipt through their app and submit it to get your cash back. Although this is an extra step, it doesn't really take much time at all.

Once you have accrued $5 worth of savings in your SavingStar account, you can cash in the savings. You can choose to receive an Amazon gift card, have the money deposited into your Paypal account or checking account or donate it to a non-profit organization.

My favorite aspect of this site is that you can use a hard copy coupon at the register for a product that also offers a SavingStar e-coupon (at least for now)!  They also have iPhone and Android apps available.

According to their website, new coupons will become available at the first of every month. Savings will usually show up in your account between 2 days and 2 weeks depending on how long it takes the stores to give SavingStar the information. These coupons will not double.

You can sign up for the program and see more information at SavingStar.com.

Which I had seen this before this morning...what option will you pick in the future? I am not excited about giving anyone access to my checking account, do not use PayPal and have my own preferneces on charitable donations.

Faye, Thanks for letting us know about the Amazon change. I went in last night to order an amazon gift card when I realized it was pointing to an old e-mail address. When my e-mail address changed I changed it in savingstar to the new account. What I realized this morning is that the charges have been going to the old account and that the new account has a zero balance. I've written to saving star and probably won't hear back until next week. I sure hope I don't lose the money in the old account. It was for $15.11! Have you ever had this problem?

I just received this update regarding the Amazon gift cards ordered before they stop offering them as a payout option on 11/1. Looks like the codes will be sent in the next week, which is fine by me.

    "Dear SavingStar Member,

We want to inform you that we have received your request for a payout of your SavingStar funds in the form of an Amazon gift card. Due to unusually high volume, there is a slight delay in the fulfillment of your gift card. You will receive an email from us within the next 7 days with your gift card code. Although you will receive the code after we remove Amazon as a payout method, please know your gift card code will still be valid. We apologize for the inconvenience.

    Thank you for using SavingStar!

    The SavingStar Team"
