New records set in City of Oaks Marathon

City of Oaks Marathon 2014

— Records were broken Sunday at the Raleigh City of Oaks Marathon and Rex Healthcare Half Marathon, race organizers said.

A record number of runners – 5,555 - registered for the eighth annual race, and a record 4,791 completed the events.

The first-place winner for the full marathon was 28-year-old Arturs Bareikis, who finished with a time of 2:29:30. The top female runner was Michelle Renee Langan, 31, who finished with a time of 2:39:36.

    I laud the runners that braved the cool temperatures Sunday morning but I only wish marathon route planners would pick a street other than the one that I live on for their routes.

    I though Raleigh was going to have runners run out on a country road so the disruptions would stop.

    This was my first half marathon, I was inspired to run it after my wife did the rock and roll in the spring. It was great to finish together, this was a great event.
