CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A new principal for the 2013-14 school year has been named for Frank Porter Graham Elementary School in Chapel Hill.

Emily Bivins, current principal of Carrboro Elementary School, will begin at Frank Porter Graham on July 1, 2013. The hire was approved by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education on Nov. 15.

Bivins was the school district's 2009-10 principal of the year. Bivins has been Carrboro Elementary's principal since 2006. She was previously assistant principal at Carrboro, as well as director of elementary instruction and staff development for the school district. Bivins taught in three elementary schools.

"Bivins is a proven and effective educator, and we have full confidence in her ability to lead Frank Porter Graham Elementary," Superintendent Tom Forcella said. "Her track record and her passion for student learning will drive that school’s pursuit of sustained excellence."
