— A new interchange on N.C. Highway 540 opened Monday morning to give drivers in southwest Wake County a quicker connection to the Triangle Expressway.

The interchange on Veridea Parkway, formerly known as Old Holly Springs-Apex Road, opened to traffic Monday at 11 a.m.

“The N.C. Turnpike Authority sees the new interchange as an advantage for residents in the area,” said Turnpike Authority Executive Director Beau Memory. “This addition will improve mobility for current traffic and larger volumes of traffic anticipated in the future, as a result of substantial growth and development in the area.”

The new interchange provides a direct north-south connection between Capital Boulevard and NC-55.

A new interchange at Morrisville Parkway in western Cary is also being designed, with construction scheduled to begin in 2018.
