New high school in Alabama to hold open house

Posted May 14

— A new high school in east Alabama is almost open for the public.

Auburn High School will be open for the community for three hours on May 31, the Opelika-Auburn News ( reported. Auburn City School staff will be stationed throughout the campus to talk about different parts of the school.

The school's date of completion was pushed back to Friday.

"We're just kind of opening it to whoever wants to come, so we're expecting 4,000 or 5,000 people," said Daniel Chesser, ACS public relations specialist.

Karen DeLano, the city's superintendent, said the school is "looking great" at a board meeting this week.

Chesser said teachers at Auburn's secondary schools have begun packing their classrooms to prepare for the summer transition.

After the open house, a moving company will begin the shift, moving the high school from June 1 through 14. Auburn Junior High School would go from June 15 through 30.

Moving seventh grade classrooms and readjusting of sixth-grade classrooms at Drake Middle School will finish by the end of July, Chesser said.
