New Hanover deputy resigns after DWI charge

A nine-year veteran of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office resigned early Saturday after being charged with driving while intoxicated, officials said.

CASTLE HAYNE, N.C. — A nine-year veteran of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office resigned early Saturday after being charged with driving drunk, officials said. 

Deputy Craig Blackmon, who was assigned to the detective division, was charged with DWI after being taken into custody by another New Hanover County deputy. 

Blackmon resigned before an internal investigation into the incident could begin. No other information about the arrest was released.

Blackmon joined the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office in 2004.
