The newly released American Customer Satisfaction Index crowns a new grocery store winner.

In past years, the top spot has gone to Wegman's or Publix but they have both moved down in the rankings and the new winner is....Trader Joe's!

The survey included more than 12,000 shoppers around the country and scored stores on qualities like convenience, quality, friendliness and pricing.

According to CouponsInTheNews.com, overall satisfaction is higher than last year and even the worst scoring stores (including Walmart) improved significantly.

Below is a list of rankings including many local stores.

#1: Trader Joe's

#2: Publix

#3: ALDI, Wegmans and H-E-B are tied (Wegmans has signed leases for four sites in the Triangle including two in Cary, 1 inRaleigh, and 1 in Chapel Hill. They do not have projected opening dates available at this time.)

# 6: Whole Foods

# 7: Kroger/ShopRite/Hy-Vee//All others are tied (the survey does not list which stores are included in the All Others category)

#11: Target and Meijer are tied

#13: BI-LO (found in the Charlotte area)

#14: AholdDelhaize (parent company of Food Lion) and Supervalu are tied

#16: Albertsons (75)

#17. Walmart and Giant Eagle are tied

You will notice that Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods are not listed separately. They could be part of the Others section in the #7 ranking, but the survey results do not break down those stores.

Do you agree with the survey results?

Which Triangle area grocery store is your favorite overall for convenience, quality, friendliness and pricing?

spccomputech - thank you for answering my question. The next time I am in NY, I will need to stop by a ShopRite and check it out.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. Very interesting perspectives.

luvstoQ - I think you nailed it when you wrote that not every store is for everyone. I agree with you about Aldi and buy produce and many other things there every week.

Aldi's has stepped their game up. The produce is much better since they are undergoing upgrading their stores. I prefer the one in Garner, very nice.

ONEFORYOU2BB, I find Aldi's fresh produce and salads for the most part to be very good quality, and that's mostly all I buy there. But, no one store is for everyone, it's true.
As for buying produce that comes from other places, even HT and Lowes does that - not much comes from the states in winter, except maybe some from CA or FL. A lot comes from Mexico or Chili (or other far off places).

Honestly I don't see how anyone likes Aldi's Even though their prices are low, their quality is lacking. If I wanted beans made packed from God Only knows where Aldi's is the place to go. Give me Lowes and or Harris Teeter any day. As for Trader Joe's, if you like your groceries marked up as high as possible just so you can be chic when talking to your friends, so be it. Doesn't make you smarter, just highbrowed. Bring back Winn Dixie PLEASE!

I guess its a regional thing, ShopRite is what we grew up with in NJ/NY area, a lot of items you can't get in Foodlion, Kroger, etc..

Sorry y'all - the Triangle does NOT need a H-E-B. We have enough competition in the grocery area already.
You all miss H-E-B? Then move back to Texas :-)

    Yes! I miss H-E-B.

No, don't agree! LOL Am 'not' impressed with Trader Joes - never was.

I like Publix, Kroger, Aldis, and HT - now, bottom of list - will not do much shopping there anymore. Will be honest - will only go get their super specials!! They've really upset me, and have lost most of my business.

Isn't the Raleigh Wegmans supposed to be where Alcatel used to be, near Trader Joe's?

    We need an HEB....
