Raleigh, N.C. — Police said Friday that they have rearrested a man who provides security at a Raleigh department store on a charge of offering to help a woman caught shoplifting in exchange for sex.
Modou Thomas, 37, of 4916 Collard Patch Lane in Garner, was initially arrested last Friday on an extortion charge. Police said he sent text messages to a 23-year-old woman who had been charged with shoplifting at his store, offering to trade sex for not testifying against her.
Media coverage of the case led an 18-year-old woman to come forward and tell police that Thomas offered a similar deal to her on her shoplifting case, police said. He was arrested again Wednesday on a second charge of extortion.
Police are trying to determine if there are any more victims, and they asked that anyone who believes she may have been contacted by Thomas to call the Raleigh Police Department’s tip line at 919-834-HELP.
