New downtown Raleigh bookstore offers summer programs

The children's book store at 111 E. Hargett St. opens April 7.

Read With Me, the new children's book and art shop in downtown Raleigh, has put together a slate of summer programs for kids.

Here's what's scheduled:

Writing Workshops: On Mondays in June, the workshops included writing exercises, dedicated writing time and instruction. They take place from 11 a.m. to noon for ages 8 and up and 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. for adults. The cost is $10 per each session. Registration is required.

Summer Camps: Programs run from June to August for risking kindergartners to second graders and rising third graders to fifth graders. Small groups will meet to incorporate literacy, history, science and the creative arts. Drop-off is available as long as parents sign a waiver. They'll take place from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, for rising kindergartners to second graders, ages 5 to 7. They take place 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, for rising third graders to fifth graders, ages 8 to 11. The cost is $60 per week for the K-2 workshops and $80 a week for the third to fifth grade workshops.

The last day to register is June 10 for the June camps, July 1 for the July camps and Aug. 1 for the August camps.

To register for the writing workshop or summer camps, email shop owner Christine Brenner at christine@readwithme.us. The shop also offers regular storytimes and other activities throughout the week. The shop is at 111 E. Hargett St., about a half block from Marbles Kids Museum.
