Chatham County, N.C. — The Triangle’s largest green community is expanding and Thursday morning, crews broke ground on the first of four commercial segments.
Thursday’s groundbreaking was on a segment of a new project called Veranda located along N.C. Highway 15-501 in Chatham County.
Project managers said the 50,000-square-foot Veranda segment will include five buildings that will boast a variety of business. The new development is in addition to the already existing Briar Chapel residential development, which is the largest green community in the Triangle.
Managers said the commercial side of the development has been 10 years in the making and will help improve the community.
“It’s important because it provides a lot of needed services for this community,” said project manager Lee Bowman. “There’s going to be restaurants, offices with doctors and attorneys’ offices, there will be some other retail opportunities, too.”
The Veranda phase should be complete by the end of the year. The rest of the commercial phases of the project will be build further down 15-501 and should be completed over the next several years.
