Durham, N.C. — This is chef Greg Gettles' final week at Piedmont, the restaurant announced Wednesday.
"We salute Chef Gettles for his work, further establishing Piedmont as a destination for locals and travelers alike who value an exceptional farm-to-fork dining experience," Piedmont’s General Manager, Crawford Leavoy, said in a statement.
Durham native chef John May will be taking over the kitchen as of Aug. 1. May worked for more than two years at Chef Vivian Howard's award-winning restaurant Chef and the Farmer in Kinston. He most recently worked at The Boot.
"I’ve been searching for exactly this opportunity – to join a restaurant in the Durham community which celebrates North Carolina farms,” May said. “I’m really excited to be so closely connected to a diverse, local organic farm – as we are with Piedmont’s sister farm, Coon Rock Farm – and to be returning home to share my cooking with Durham’s rich dining community.”
Before he officially takes over, there will be a series of special dinners featuring May over the summer.
In the interim, Chef de Cuisine Lorenzo Leon-Guerrero, who has been with Piedmont for two years, will serve as chef.
