A Fuquay-Varina man faces a charge of felony death by motor vehicle in a crash a week ago that killed another man, authorities said.

Ross Franklin Mayfield, 22, of 1914 Sterling Hill Drive, was initially charged with driving while impaired in the Jan. 3 wreck at the intersection of Hilltop Needmore and Lake Wheeler roads.

Authorities said Mayfield ran a red light, and his Saturn slammed into a Mazda driven by Aaron Craig Allgood, 24, of Fuquay-Varina. Allgood died at the scene.

since the death was known immediately, why did it take a week to 'figure that out' ? Our legal system sucks.

Can y'all read??? It says "A Fuquay-Varina man faces a charge of FELONY DEATH by motor vehicle". He was "INITIALLY" charged with driving while impaired.....

I am curious why he was not charged with 2nd degree murder. Can anybody out there give us some insight to that?

what abouthat Dr that killed the ballerina. He was driving drunk, got a slap on the wrist. :(

It's a shame that people continue to drive after drinking. It's so unnecessary...and downright wrong and stupid. This guy has taken another life. The laws need to be as stiff as possible for first time offenders - perhaps fewer people would drive drunk. And fewer people who are innocent would have to die. How is it that the drunk driver always comes out alive?! Crazy.
