When Carowinds amusement park opens for the season Saturday, it will include a new "giga coaster" rated the world's tallest and fastest in its class.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When Carowinds amusement park opens for the season Saturday, it will include a new "giga coaster" rated the world's tallest and fastest in its class.
The Fury 325 will propel riders at speeds of up to 95 miles per hour along 6,602 feet of track.

"The opening of Fury 325 gives Carowinds two of the 10 tallest rollercoasters in North America,” noted Mike Fehnel, Carowinds vice president and general manager.

The new thrill is part of a $50 million, multi-year upgrade to the park that includes:

  • A new parking toll entrance with 900 additional parking spaces
  • The SlingShot – a catapult that tosses riders 300 feet in the air
  • New dining options throughout the park, and
  • Taste of the Carolinas food festival offering a sampling of the best of what the Carolinas have to offer on weekends April 18 through May 17.
