New bus route connects Wendell, Zebulon to Raleigh

Posted October 13, 2009

— Commuters from Wendell and Zebulon to Raleigh will have a new option beginning Oct. 26.

Triangle Transit announced Tuesday a new weekday bus route connecting the Wake County towns with downtown Raleigh.

Stops on the Zebulon/Wendell-Raleigh Express (ZWX) include park-and-ride lots in Zebulon and Wendell, WakeMed and Wake County Human Services off New Bern Avenue, four stops at the state government complex and the Moore Square Transit Station in downtown Raleigh.

The route will run Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

There will be an introductory fare-free period from Oct. 26 to Nov. 30. Afterward, the fare is $2.50 per one-way trip or $5 per round-trip.

Discount fares and passes are offered, and several employers in downtown Raleigh are offering free or discounted transit passes to employees.

This was ALSO supposed to also serve Knightdale, stopping at a park-and-ride at Widewater Crossings. It would have helped alleviate parking problems/costs for employees downtown, and personally saved me up to 7000 miles commuting per year. But the Wakemed stop is halfway there already. Too good to be true, for long. And the railway between Raleigh and K-Dale remails idle....

veyor, are you implying that the bus is for those that don't work? What about those that work as much as you do and still cannot afford a vehicle? Hmmmm

"bad elements" and they consist of??????????? Who are the these "bad elements"? It would help to enlighten those of us that may not know so that we can keep them away.

I rode the Wake Forest Express when I worked in downtown Raleigh. I will absolutely ride it again if my job moves downtown. It was an efficient, cheap way for professionals to get to/from work. The people on the bus could not have been nicer. I'm not going to feed into the bus rider stereotype, but the riders of the Express bus were suburbanites that you would be happy to have as neighbors.

wow. bad elements in Wendell. I've lived here for 7 years and have seen a much lower crime rate than I see in Raleigh. Maybe we should be nervous of the 'bad element' riding the bus from Raleigh into our quaint little town. There's a thought.

People did read the article. If you're living in Zebulon/Wendell and you wanted public transportation you probably should have moved to a bigger city. I'm not too concerned, ridership probably won't be profitable enough to keep it around, at least one could hope. I like the bus stop types in Raleigh and OUT of small towns.

DeathRow-IFeelYourPain-NOT: I agree with you. I have never liked the idea of public bus transportation, except in big cities. It gives "bad elements" the chance to go where they aren't wanted.

I for one think it's a great idea. I've lived in Zebulon majority of my life and had always wondered about when they would put in transportation for people who do live in the country to get to Raleigh. People who will use this probably DO actually work and they will pay $5 round trip..if you didn't read the article.
