New breast cancer care center opening Monday
The latest Komen grant will serve to provide free breast exams and mammograms to 250 people in Orange County.
Posted — UpdatedIt is three times the size of its current center and offers women a more comfortable environment.
Rex has also added a second digital mammography unit so patients will have shorter wait times.
Many women have insurance coverage to pay for this care, but many are either under-insured or without insurance.
The Komen Foundation plays a huge role in supporting Rex's mammography assistance program.
"The past seven years, Komen has actually provided over $500,000 to provide women in our community who need care that they otherwise wouldn't receive," said Rex Cancer outreach manager Emmeline Madsen.
Komen and Rex Healthcare funding is also available for diagnostic mammograms such as a mammography-guided needle biopsy.
There's also surgical assistance for women who have suspicious findings.
The Komen Foundation is there to let women know that financial problems should not be a barrier to care.
The major hospitals all offer their own charity care programs as well.
