CARY, N.C.City Barbeque, Cary's new BBQ restaurant, is hosting a BBQ sauce competition as part of its grand opening celebration.

Contestants have until Monday, March 31, to get their entries in. All you have to do is send in your recipe and contact information (name, phone number and email address) to saucecontest@citybbq.com. Finalists will be notified by Friday, April 4.

On Saturday, April 12, finalists will have their BBQ sauces judged at the grand opening event. Half of the score is determined by local Cary celebs, and the other half by the "people's choice." The first place winner will receive a $350 gift card, a huge trophy and possibly have his or her sauce featured at City Barbeque. There will also be prizes for second and third place finishers.

Due to public health reasons, all sauces will be prepared by City Barbeque. All of the sauces will be sampled on hickory smoked pulled pork.

Even if your sauce skills are lacking, you can head to the grand opening celebration for live music, barbecue samples and more from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City Barbeque is a chain with 25 locations in North Carolina, Kentucky and Ohio. Each location smokes meats in-house and trims sandwiches to order. You can choose from traditional Carolina, Kansas City, Memphis and Texas-style barbecue.
