— North Carolina State University police issued a warning after a female student reported a sexual assault late Tuesday.

Police said a man approached the student while she was walking near Thomas Hall, at Yarborough Drive and Deriex Place. The man tried to put his hands down her pants, but she was able to fight him off and get away, police said.

The man was described as white, with a light complexion and medium build, about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and dark shoes.

Police said he was last seen on foot near Thomas Hall.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call NCSU police at 919-515-3000.

limeyrider -- I think that description came from the police, not from WRAL themselves. They're just repeating what was reported as a description.

My roommate was right by this area an hour after this happened. I walk to class this way about every day. I hope this fellow student of mine will be able to feel safe again someday.

The attacker was white and male, which describes about 60% of the NCSU student population, and frankly we don't know if the perp was a student or not. But really, did you expect this girl to whip out her phone and take a picture of this dude's face? Seriously. I think her description of a tall pale white dude is better than nothing.

actually, limey, it is NOT racist to ask about the complexion. I used to work as a 911 operator and asking for that detail helps narrow down the description and avoids stopping people that don't really fit.

"White, with a light complexion..." Not only redundant, ignorant and racist but profoundly offensive - ESPECIALLY when other descriptions of perpetrators on this site involving Afro-American/Negro (yes, 'negro' is scientifically correct - look it up) or Mexican/Latin American ARE NOT LISTED as such!! Don't get me wrong, I support severe bodily injury to all sexual assailants regardless of race or sex. I equally oppose WRAL's perpetuation of ignorance.

"LIght complextion! HA HA HA HAHA"

i don't get it. why is that funny? Some white people are very fair skinned, others are much darker. they're describing a perp, and the more information the better.

Good for her for fighting him off and being able to give such a detailed description. It's a great description, all things considered.

I hope they can catch him and that she has a good support network.

    oldb77-Or was he Powder? Hmm....

All kidding aside, I hope they catch the guy. That's just creepy. And with some classes running until 10 pm, that's just dangerous.

pseudonym -- that description is actually pretty good considering if he happens to be a frequent visitor of that area or a fellow student, somebody else who could've been in the area that saw him could help identify him.

And obviously if he was really tan, black, hispanic, or chinese/japenese looking then they would say that in the description too. Something like that is not to be made fun of. I hope the same thing doesn't happen to a female in your families.

lol @ white with a light complexion. So since he's not tan white, is he medium white or ghostly pale white?
