— Durham police charged one North Carolina Central University student with an assault on another this week for an incident that happened in a campus computer lab.

Amy Yessalavich, who is white, said Latasha Johnson, who is black, made a series of racial comments then assaulted her, leaving her with some bruises and swelling.

Yessalavich filed a complaint with Durham police on Oct. 1, and Johnson was arrested on a charge of simple assault.

The university's Disciplinary Committee heard the case on Friday. A ruling is expected next week. In a statement, NCCU spokeswoman Cynthia Fobert said the university is committed to the safety of all its students.

rb....YOU ARE ON tARGET. disgusting. Why is this a University Disciplinary Committee Action? and not a criminal action, assault & (racial comments) = HATE crime!

I went to NCCU and had racial comments made towards me. It was always by the campus braintrusts. These were the folks that were on the 8-10 year plan(i.e. 6th year sophomores). It's sad that a few clowns can mess up a great university.

"Amy Yessalavich, who is white, said Latasha Johnson, who is black, made a series of racial comments then assaulted her, leaving her with some bruises and swelling."

Why is this not a hate crime???

And yes, Johnson should be immediately expelled, regardless the circumstances because regardless the circumstances, you don't hit someone else.

    God bless.

Uncalled for and Johnson should be expelled from the school. Then she will have learned a lesson.
