DURHAM, N.C. — A North Carolina Central University student was charged Wednesday in an accident that killed a fellow student.

Tariq Jamal Jacobs, 19, of Norfolk, Va., was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle in the March 31 crash that killed Chekeira Renae Reid.

Reid, an N.C. Central senior from Greensboro, was a passenger in Jacobs' 2000 Honda Accord, which police said crossed the center line of N.C. Highway 55 near Crete Road and collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt.

Jacobs, a sophomore and member of the football team, and Joshua Clark, 27, the driver of the Cobalt, were injured in the crash.
