DURHAM, N.C. — North Carolina Central University announced Friday that Laura R. Foxx has been appointed interim vice chancellor for institutional advancement.

Foxx replaces outgoing vice chancellor Katey Assem who has been reassigned as a special assistant to the chancellor. Foxx inherits a strong fundraising team that has been responsible for a recent increase in overall giving over the last fiscal year, the university said.

Foxx previously served as associate vice president for University Advancement for the University of North Carolina’s General Administration where she was responsible for directing private fundraising programs across the UNC system.

Prior to her tenure at UNC-GA, she was senior vice president at Bank of America overseeing its charitable and community programs.

With her interim placement at NCCU, Foxx is returning to the small college environment where she started her fundraising career. She began as a major gifts officer for Davidson College from 1989 to 1996 during the historic Campaign for Davidson, which raised $160 million.

Foxx is a graduate of the UNC system, having earned her bachelor’s degree in English at UNC-Charlotte and her master’s degree in higher education at UNC–Chapel Hill.
