ASHEBORO, N.C. — Four lion cubs at the North Carolina Zoo now have names.

The zoo on Friday announced the results of its online contest to name the 3-month-old cubs. The females are Savanna and Lololi, and the male cubs are Khari and Kirabo.

Zoo keepers chose the name from 2,000 submissions. Savanna refers to the grasslands of Africa, Lololi means there is always love, Khari means kingly and Kirabo means gift from God.

The contest winners are Katie Mills of Greensboro, Rilee Cowan of Holly Ridge, Julie Higgins of Greensboro and Kim Currin of Oxford. They will each receive four zoo tickets and items from the zoo’s gift shop.
