MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — Police say James Marvin Johnson, of Moore County, launched a sixth-month reign of terror by preying on young girls in the summer of 1998.

Johnson repeatedly raped a 12-year-old girl, who became pregnant, authorities said.

DNA proved Johnson was the father, but before he could be arrested, Johnson started a youth group called, “Clean Teens.”

The group’s objective was to keep children out of trouble through camping. However, investigators said it only gave Johnson access to more young girls.

Johnson was arrested twice, but his family bailed him out both times. Officials said Johnson left town and hasn’t been seen since.

“If you run, you’re guilty,” said Johnson’s brother, Donald.

WRAL News interviewed Donald Johnson in 2007. He put up his house as collateral on Johnson's bond. The house would have been lost it if the court had not given him a break.

“They could have taken everything I had, my business and all,” Johnson said. “I would never sign another bond as long as I live.”

Betrayed by his brother, Johnson agrees with law enforcement that his brother needs to be caught.

“The bible says to forgive but never forget,” Johnson said.

At the time of the crimes, Johnson was 5 feet 11 inches and 265 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Officials said he also had a tattoo on his right arm that read “widow maker,” and another on his back that said “Indian Outlaw.”
