A bullet that killed Jamir Whitaker, 2, in 2008 was meant for someone else.

Police said the shooting happened when someone attempted to rob his parents. The person who killed Whitaker has yet to face justice.

“I had just gotten inside from working on my car, so it could have been me,” said Whitaker’s neighbor, Josh Bobbit. “I’ve lived here 16 years and nothing has really happened. I like this neighborhood.”

Whitaker’s father was shot twice, but survived. Police say they found 17 pounds of marijuana in the home, along with $3,500 in cash with other drug paraphernalia.

Another neighbor, Chris, said he remembered Whitaker as a happy two-year-old often seen in his yard playing with his pit bull puppy.

“He had himself a little pit bull puppy,” he said. “Just as happy as can be.”

“I can’t imagine what his mama is going through, for her to lose her son,” he said. “She’s told neighbors she was happy that she moved over here because her kid could go out and play in the yard and not have to worry about things”

If anyone has information about the death of Whitaker, call 1-866-43-wanted.
