CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A student murdered off-campus shattered the sense of security in the UNC Chapel Hill community. Three years later, Faith Hedgepeth’s killer has not been caught.

Authorities said Hedgepeth was found beaten to death in her apartment in September of 2012.

“Here we are three years late and we still don’t know the answers,” said Hedgepeth’s sister, Rolanda.

Another painful Christmas will come and go for the Hedgepeth family, still feeling the enormous loss and not knowing who robbed them of a lifetime of memories.

“It’s really hard; hard because of knowing what happened asn not knowing why it happened—who did it,” Rolanda Hedgepeth said.

Several people were questioned, and some offered DNA for testing but no arrests have been made.

The case is still open, and Chapel Hill Police hope advancements in DNA will give them the break they need.

“One little piece of information could break the case, could give us some type of piece,” Hedgepeth said. “How could somebody withhold that after everything we have lost?”

Until then, the best they can hope for is a tip that helps solve thecase.

“I’m always hopeful,” Hedgepeth said. “You never lose hope.”

Anyone with information regarding the unsolved murder of Faith Hedgepeth is asked to call the NC Wanted hotline at 1-866-436-2683.
